SONAE MC’s Amad Hafez presented an update of experiences with cascade systems in Portugal and the retailer’s plan until 2020. While the company plans to continue the use of CO2 subcritical systems, it is seeking an alternative to R134a and still evaluating the performance of its two CO2/NH3 stores.

Amad Hafez started at SONAE MC in 2012, in the department of equipment and construction, taking responsibility for the management of the cooling projects for both new stores and re-builds. He has been applying and constantly looking for new solutions in the area of commercial refrigeration by making the stores more sustainable both energetically and environmentally.

He is a graduate in Electrotechnical engineering from the Institute of Engineering of Lisbon, Portugal (ISEL), and holds a master's degree in Mechanical engineering with specialty in power, HVAC and refrigeration. Previously, Amad worked at Arneg Portugal where he was responsible for the department of technical assistance and projects.
