Sanchez explained the term ‘industrommercial’ in the sense that both industries are overlapping more and more. Sanchez compared commercial (supermarket) and industrial (cold storage/blast freezing) in terms of traditional load sizes – commercial 10-150 tons, industrial 50-1000 – piping (steel vs copper); and refrigerant – commercial H(C)FCs, industrial ammonia. Sanchez argued that CO₂ will play a big role in closing the gap and providing another natural refrigerant option for the industrial sector because unlike ammonia, CO₂ does not require open drive compressors.

Joe manages the Application Engineering and Ammonia Compressor Package teams for BITZER US. He joined BITZER ten years ago as a Manufacturing Engineer and later moved to Application Engineering. He has a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering from Northwestern University. Joe is a member of IIAR, RETA and ASHRAE, and has an article on CO2 published with the RSES magazine. He is also active with AHRI in the Compressors and Condensing Units section and its subcommittees.
