In only one week, representatives from the European Commission as well as the European Parliament will meet at ATMOsphere Europe to discuss and get stakeholder input from industry participants on the revision of the F-Gas Regulation expected next year.

Two key EU documents have been published late September. ATMOsphere Europe comes at a perfect time to discuss these with relevant EU authorities about the future of refrigerants in Europe:
  • The European Commission (EC) just released its impact assessment into the need for further regulation of fluorinated gases in the EU: Ms Bente Tranholm-Schwarz, European Commission DG CLIMA, will be for the first time presenting the findings of this study as well as international policy action. Moreover, the effectiveness of the current so called F-Gas Regulation and its review in 2011 will be debated by experts. After the panel discussion every participant can give his/her direct input through a questionnaire from the EC consulting stakeholders on the potential economic, social and environmental impacts of different options for additional reductions of fluorinated gas (f-gas) emissions in the EU. • Mid-September 2011 the European Parliament (EP) had a debate and vote on a motion for a resolution on “A comprehensive approach to non-CO2 climate-relevant anthropogenic emissions”, including emissions of f-gases. Adopted on 14 September 2011, the EP urges the European Union to be more pro-active in reducing non-CO2 climate-relevant gases and calls for action to phase down HFCs. Author of the resolution and member of the EP Theodoros Skylakakis, will be the keynote dinner speaker on Tuesday night to speak about his resolution and to the explain his views about what is needed to phase down / phase out HFCs. As explained above, this very important message from the EP comes at a time when the European Commission prepares for the next round of F Gas legislation. Find the complete motion for resolution here.
