Bangkok, Thailand, 26 September 2017: ATMOsphere Asia 2017, held for the first time in Bangkok, Thailand, brought together 172 attendees with nearly 60 representing leading end users from the region. Representatives from several hotel chains, including Accor, Sofitel and Marriot, were also among those who attended to learn more about solutions for large buildings.

This is the highest proportion of end users of all ATMOsphere events organised by shecco in 2017.

The event, held at the exquisite five-star Sofitel Sukhumvit hotel, comes two months after the 39th Meeting of the Open-Ended Working Group (OEWG39) of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol, which also took place in Bangkok.

“We are very impressed with the attendance and end-user engagement that ATMOsphere Asia is attracting. We see this a clear sign of the interest in natural refrigerants in Southeast Asia, and the huge potential that this region holds,” says  Alvaro de Oña, chief operating officer at shecco.

Highlights of the conference included end user presentations from Southeast Asia’s leading companies in industrial food processing and cold storage as well as local and overseas commercial retailers.

Representatives from globally leading industrial food processing conglomerates, Charoen Pokphand Group, Thai Union Group, PT Dua Putra Perkasa and Betagro Group discussed the important role natural refrigerants play in their sustainability initiatives.

Case studies with local commercial retailers Jaya Grocer and Alfa Midi were also highlighted in the end user panel. These projects included the first CO2 condensing units installed in Malaysia, in co-operation with Malaysia’s Department of the Environment, Panasonic, and local distributor Coolcare as well as the 12 CO2 condensing units now running at local Indonesian retailer Alfamidi.

Presentations from Olaf Schulze from global retailer Metro AG joined David Schalenbourg of Ahold Delhaize to provide their perspective on implementing natural refrigerant solutions around the world.

Anshu Kumar from the United Nations Development Programme and Shaofeng Hu from the United Nations Environment Programme joined representatives from the local governments of Indonesia and Malaysia to discuss the impact and challenges of the Kigali Amendment as well as the availability of funding for natural refrigerant projects in the region.

Finally, presentations from world-leading technology suppliers highlighted key natural refrigerant technology that is now available worldwide and their latest updated figures on number of installations in Southeast Asia. Presenters included Mayekawa, Panasonic, Liebherr, JMM Likido and many more.
