Genentech Inc., a biotechnology corporation seeking solutions to unmet medical needs, has announced that it will be a Silver Sponsor the 3rd annual ATMOsphere America 2014. Genentech, headquartered in South San Francisco, California, is the first end-user to support ATMOsphere America, to visibly promote and lend its name to efforts towards natural refrigerants.

Founded in 1976 by venture capitalist Robert A. Swanson and biochemist Dr. Herbert Boyer, Genentech has been following the science for over 30 years, using human genetic information to discover, develop, manufacture and commercialize medicines to treat patients with serious or life-threatening medical conditions. Genentech is among the world’s leading biotech companies with multiple products on the market and a promising development pipeline. Since 2009, Genentech has been a member of the Roche Group and now serves as the headquarters for all Roche pharmaceutical operations in the United States.

One of the company’s top priorities is ensuring a sustainable future. Genentech participates alongside several of the Bay Area’s top companies in an effort to lower energy, water and waste by 20%. The Genentech campus itself is built to focus on sustainability and, to that effect, the company is participating in the US Green Building Council’s Best Buildings Challenge, which will come to a close in June. One of its larger projects was the optimization of the HVAC system in one of the buildings, resulting in energy reduction on campus. This is the project that Genentech will present at ATMOsphere America 2014, chairing the HVAC session on 18 June in the afternoon.
