This presentation focused on performance data relating to the energy efficiency of CO2 commercial refrigeration systems in convenience stores and supermarkets. A total of 450 CO2 units have been installed throughout Japan in 145 locations. Presenter Gaku Shimada, an advisor within the Corporate Planning Group of the Air-Conditioner Division within Panasonic Corporation, showed data monitored throughout the year, proving that key technology and product structure can achieve remarkable efficiency results. This presentation also addressed obstacles such as cost and training, and discussed the future of CO2 in commercial refrigeration.

Gaku Shimada

 

In 1996, Gaku Shimada graduated from WASEDA University (with a Major in Applied Physics) and entered SANYO Electric Co.Ltd as a Mechanical Engineer of compressors. After receiving a Master degree in 2006 from Boston Univ., School of Management, he became the compressor sales manager as well as a strategic business planning manager of the new technology research department. Since 2017, Mr. Shimada has been the Manager of Strategic Planning of Condensing Unit Business and Overseas Sales, Cold Chain Business Division of Panasonic Corporation.
