Mike Ellinger highlights Whole Foods’ ambitions to reduce synthetic refrigerant charge, to reduce energy consumptions and to achieve maintenance comparable to direct expansion systems. Stressing the importance of training and involving local regulators in the process of such projects, Ellinger points to the success of Whole Foods’ experiences with natural refrigeration systems, which include nine stores refrigerated with centralised CO2 refrigeration systems.

Mike Ellinger

 

Mike began his career with Whole Foods Market as a facility manager for the Rocky Mountain region in 2006. Today he oversees maintenance and refrigeration programs for the company on a national basis. He is involved in key refrigeration programs utilizing advanced technologies, all natural refrigerants and secondary systems. He coordinates the GreenChill partnership program with the EPA for the company. He is on the steering committee for the U.S. DOE’s Commercial Building Energy Alliance as well as their refrigeration and space conditioning teams.

Prior to Whole Foods Market Mike worked for Carrier Corporation and has over 18+ years experience with commercial refrigeration systems.
