John S. Scherer of the Los Angeles Cold Storage Company gives an overview of the current state of the warehouse refrigeration industry. Scherer presents the technical characteristics and advantages of the newly developed NXTCOLDTM technology for ammonia systems by providing evidence from corresponding installations. The NXTCOLDTM uses less than 100 lb (45.36kg) of ammonia per refrigeration system and requires minimum installation time.

John Scherer has specialized in ice, cold storage and food distribution facility design, construction and operations for 35 years. During this time, Mr. Scherer’s designs, systems and related equipment have shipped to seven countries. John is a past National President of RETA (Refrigerating Engineers and Technicians Association) and originator of RETA’s certification program for industrial refrigeration plant operators and technicians.

Mr. Scherer holds five United States patents and their fifteen international counterparts, all relative to food, water and power sustainability. Particular emphasis is placed on high efficiency, economical ammonia absorption and ammonia compression refrigeration systems. His most recent patent and patents pending form the basis of NXTCOLDTM ERIC (Electronic Refrigerant Injection Control) VLC (Very Low Charge) ammonia refrigeration technology.
