Barry Karnes of the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) presents on the natural refrigerant relevant activities of the UL’s Joint Task Group (JTG) and its working groups.

Barry Karnes

 

Barry Karnes has been employed with Underwriters Laboratories since 1980 in UL’s San Jose/Silicon Valley, CA office and has worked within the Heating, Ventilating, Air Conditioning and Refrigeration Department for his entire career. He is presently one of UL’s Principal Engineers with global technical responsibility for several UL standards such as the Standards for Hermetic Refrigerant Motor-Compressors, UL 60335-2-34; Drinking Water Coolers, UL 399; and Vending Machines, UL 751. He has also served as an alternate member to two National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) Code Making Panels.

Barry is a registered Professional Mechanical Engineer in the State of California, is a member of the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME) and has received three UL Professional Engineering Awards.

He has served his community for 11 years as an elected Director of a local Sanitary District. Barry is a private pilot and enjoys vacationing in Hawaii.
