Johnson Controls described a FRIBIN meat processing facility in Spain using a centralised CO2 industrial refrigeration system in order to improve the quality of production and reduce long-term operational costs. The solution provides a saving up to 2.600.000 kW per year to realise €380.000 savings. Before renovation, the plant had four machine rooms dating back to the 70's, 80's and 90's. One of these machine rooms was renovated in 2004 with 3 new Sabroe screw compressors, and the remaining three machine rooms were unified into one, thus limiting the number of compressors and maintenance costs. This solution was implemented in two phases, with no disruption to production, and allowed for better performance, consumption and control.
