After explaining the concept of ground freezing techniques using natural refrigerants for construction works, the presentation comapred a CO₂/NH₃ freezing system to a conventional R22 system, which achieves a vastly greater COP of 2.55 compared to 1.63. Chemical Grouting intends to help green the construction sector in Japan, with a metropolitan expressway and bullet train among its planned works in the near future.

Dr. Soma serves as the Manager of the Engineering Development Departement at Chemical Grouting, Co.,Ltd. He studied new methods and machines for soil improvement and thermal flow. He received his Dr. Eng. focusing on the theme of the geothermal heat pump utilizing CO₂ in 2012. He joined Chemical Grouting in 1996.
