ATMOsphere 2010 is an International Workshop to help bring Natural Refrigerants Faster to Market. Its main focus will be to enable interactive debates in small working groups following presentations about market innovations for ammonia, CO2 and hydrocarbons. Deadline for submitting your paper is 14 June 2010.

ATMOsphere 2010
will be held on 27-28 September in Brussels. In order to present the latest market innovations in the field of ammonia refrigeration the organisers are looking for presentations in the following application areas:
  • Commercial & Light-Commercial Refrigeration

  • Air Conditioning (Mobile & Stationary)
  • Industrial Refrigeration
  • Heat Pumps

Submission criteria

Should you wish to provide your input in the above mentioned fields, you are invited to send an abstract that satisfies all or several of the following criteria:

1) Market Innovation: The presented product, service, or solution needs to be fully developed, having passed the prototype and testing stage with either early commercialisation or a maximum of 12 months of application in the field. The presentation needs to highlight the solution’s innovative element(s) as regards application, technology, material, efficiency, safety, or other.

Neither solutions still in the research and testing phase, nor fully established mass market solutions will be considered. If falling in the latter category the abstract needs to outline where further innovative potential lies.

2) Wide Application: The solution presented needs to be applicable on a substantial market volume on a global scale. Niche applications could be considered if they offer significant growth potential in a certain geographic area. The abstract needs to explain under which scenarios and market strategies the presented solution could expect the largest market growth rates, and outline where further technological and economic potential lies.

3) Environmental
Potential: The presentation needs to highlight the direct and indirect greenhouse gas emission savings that can be achieved by applying the natural refrigerants solution. More specifically this requires a comparison with HCFC and/or HFC-based installations, and competing proposed solutions, where applicable. Subjects covered could include refrigerant leakage, energy efficiency under different climatic and operating conditions, and a total life cycle approach.

4) Transfer to Developing World: Priority will be given to presentations outlining how the solution could be applied in developing countries now and/or in the future. For this, it will need to focus on the role of the organisation having developed the solution and of the industry as a whole, as well as the role of the investment community, and from international and national legislators.

5) Barriers & Opportunities: Being a precursor for the subsequent discussions in small working groups, the presentation needs to suggest areas of major concern for a wide-spread use of the presented solution and for the represented industry as a whole. Priority will be given to presentations that name concrete barriers (political, societal, economic, legal, or other) - and possible solutions to serve as an inspiration for the workshop debates.

If you feel that your presentation about a product, service, or solution relying on natural refrigerants meets the outlined criteria, you are invited to submit your abstract with concrete reference to each or a maximum number of these criteria in written form to:
