R744.com:
You have been the chairman of the international conference for natural refrigerants ATMOsphere 2009 in Brussels. After the success of this event you decided to organise another edition: ATMOsphere 2010 - International Workshop on Natural Refrigerants. Why did you change the name from conference to workshop?

Marc Chasserot: To answer that question of “HOW?” we have applied a special ‘ATMOsphere formula’. After discussing with many individuals we believe now that we have found the answer. It is simple. We will bring together 150 Policy & Industry experts for 2 days to present and discuss HOW to bring Natural Refrigerants Faster to Market. These 150 experts will include 25 speakers and importantly 30 Moderators to manage the interactive workshops that will follow each session.

All participants will be divided into 15 groups of 10 people each with one moderator during the whole two days. Groups and moderators will change after one day. Each group will have an equal distribution of different stakeholders ranging from Policy, End Users, Suppliers, Academia and NGOs. Each group will have a series of questions to discuss and report back to the rest of ATMOsphere. The questions will be collected and developed through questionnaires sent to over 5000 experts worldwide in 150 countries.

R744.com: How will you make sure that the results lead to concrete actions after the conference?

Chasserot: The results of ATMOsphere including proposals for concrete actions from the group discussions will be put into a ‘special report’ that we will give to general and trade media. In addition, this report will be personally distributed by the organising team to companies at Chillventa 2010 mid- October as well as to UN delegations in Nairobi for MOP 22 (Montreal process) and COP 16 in Cancun (Copenhagen process).

R744.com: What else will be better at this year’s edition?

Chasserot: This year we will have even more emphasis on how to bring Natural Refrigerants to emerging markets. We will have policy and industry participants from developing countries and have a special fund to help ensure that experts attend ATMOsphere in person.

Besides the 150 policy and industry experts and the wide dissemination of the results to thousands of experts around the world, we will have up to three “Networking Rooms” for participants to have meetings and discussions.

We will also have an open “sponsors room” with tables and space for sponsors to showcase their companies and products.
