Garden City Ammonia Program (GCAP) provides education for industrial refrigeration operators for efficiency, safety and compliance. Founded in 2003, the school provides training with natural refrigerants including ammonia and CO2, for over 650 different companies. GCAP, recognized as one of the top programs in the U.S., will support the 3rd annual ATMOsphere America 2014 conference as a Silver Sponsor!

Garden City Ammonia Program’s training spectrum is designed for a range of customers, from quick start customers with no experience to the seasoned operator. GCAP’s has live running systems in its labs for each division: ammonia refrigeration, CO2 refrigeration, steam boilers and PSM/RMP compliance.

Hands on training & equipment

Working in permanent coordination with industry experts and end users, GCAP boasts one of the most complete training facilities in the world, with 3 different ammonia engine rooms, which include 20 different compressors (one running on an NH3/CO2 cascade system), and 5 live natural gas fire tube boilers, available for operator training. Recently, a new Mycom/Mayekawa NewTom 3000, the world’s first semi-hermetic screw compressor unit running on an NH3/CO2 cascade system, was installed at GCAP’s facility.

New CO2 training

In addition to industrial ammonia training programs, GCAP also offers CO2 training for technicians. GCAP’s CO2 Division is one of the only schools in the United States with live running CO2 equipment. The school currently offers a “CO2 Technician” course, where one will study CO2 transcritical, CO2 brine, CO2 compression and CO2 heat pump applications. Technicians must have two years of industrial refrigeration experience and/or GCAP’s Ammonia Operator I course as prerequisites.
