Case studies from Panasonic, Mayekawa, Embraco and Yamato will be presented at ATMOsphere Japan 2017 in Tokyo.

The ATMOsphere Review Panel is pleased to announce the first round of case study selections for ATMOsphere Japan 2017 on 20 February in Tokyo.

Panasonic, Mayekawa, Embraco, and Yamato will discuss their innovative natural refrigerant-based technologies at the conference.

Additional case study selections will be announced over the coming weeks.

Panasonic: Performance of new 30 HP CO2 cascade system and next steps in development by Hidekazu Tachibana

Panasonic has developed and supplied more than 2000 CO2 condensing units to mainly the
Japanese food retail market until today. At the previous ATMOsphere conference Panasonic had announced a first field test of its new 30 HP system that extend current line up with largest capacity of 20HP. At next year's conference, the company will present performance results from the first installations of the 30 HP CO2 cascade system and will introduce a 12 HP CO2 side-flow condensing unit equipped with new CO2 compressor. Mr. Tachibana will also talk about future direction of development for the company's CO2 technologies in the commercial refrigeration sector.

Mayekawa: Introduction of new NH3/CO2 packaged chiller for small and medium scale facilities
by Hidehiro Kitayama

Mayekawa has developed an energy efficiencient and environmentally friendly NH3/CO2 secondary cooling system that has already been adopted by many refrigerated warehouses and food processing factories. It has gained a good reputation for safety and energy savings. Mayekawa responded to inquiries from the industry and expanded its product lineup with a small NH3/CO2 system. At ATMOsphere Japan 2017, Mr. Kitayama will introduce this highly efficiencient natural refrigerant system for medium and small scale facilities called "SIERRA",  equipped with an ammonia scroll compressor using an IPM motor.

Yamato: Energy saving and economic efficiency of CO2UEI system at retail stores by Toshiaki Hosono

CO2UEI system works with CO2 refrigerants and is composed with CO2UEI unit as brine-ice thermal storage equipment as well as cooling load side instruments using brine-ice thermal storage. CO2UEI unit was especially developed for acceleration of legal process, reduction of installation space, reliability improvement for CO2 piping construction and so on. The performance as brine-ice thermal storage equipment was evaluated by the results of the demonstration. Additionally, operation of CO2UEI system at assumed retail store was simulated using the results of CO2UEI unit demonstration, energy savings and economic efficiency were evaluated compared to HFC and CO2 DX cooling system and these results will also be presented.

Embraco: How can Embraco help appliance manufacturers meet present and future energy standards with variable capacity technology applied to light commercial appliances using natural refrigerants
by Marek Zgliczynski

Supported by its research findings, Embraco recommends for the light commercial segment, the use of HC refrigerants in every product allowable by application. This paper will present the results of tests performed with varied models and applications using isobutane (R600a) and propane (R290) refrigerants.  Because of the use of hydrocarbons and thermodynamic property benefits, significant improvements were evident.  Additional benefits are possible by way of variable speed technology but its use is still limited in the light commercial refrigeration segment. Embraco’s new developments on the range expansion of Fullmotion, will likely benefit the light commercial refrigeration segment.  Comparative testing using Embraco Fullmotion compressors in some commercial applications as well as the economical and environmental benefits are included in this presentation.
