Most retailers use natural refrigerants, says European studyNews | 3 July 2014A survey shows that natural refrigerant solutions are a better investment than the HFCs (hydro- flourocarbons) system. In western and northern Europe, two-thirds of foremost retailers have chosen to execute natural refrigerant technology in their stores. est enterprise group levels of their organisations to drive carbon footprint reduction in their stores through refrigeration. more

ATMOsphere America 2014: state of the art low charge ammonia industrial refrigeration – Part 2News | 2 July 2014Part 2 of ammonia21.com’s reporting on the NH3 presentations at ATMOsphere America 2014 looks at the case studies submitted by Vacom Technologies, Los Angeles Cold Storage Company and CIMCO, who each presented energy saving refrigeration solutions for warehouses, together with Emerson Climate Technologies, who presented an ammonia heat pump installation using their single screw compressor. more
ATMOsphere America features first ever HVAC session looking at water in cooling applicationsNews | 2 July 2014In an ATMOsphere America 2014 session sponsored and moderated by leading biotechnology company Genentech, Conservation Mechanical Systems and Munters des Champs presented projects focused on using water to provide cooling in HVAC applications. The case studies covered a variety of topics, including benefits of the use of evaporative cooling, challenges for the industry, future trends, and more. According to Genentech, they are making between $350 and $600 million available for investment in natural refrigerant technologies for the planned upgrade of their campus HVAC&R systems. more
ATMOsphere America 2014: CO2 refrigerated containers for transport commercially available in 2014News | 27 June 2014ATMOsphere America 2014, held in San Francisco, California from 18-19 June attracted industry experts from around the globe to present and discuss technology trends, best practices and how to accelerate the market uptake of natural refrigerants. CO2 has significant market potential in the transport sector, as presented by Jim Taechens, who discussed Carrier’s CO2 refrigerated container, which has already successfully completed 27,500 operating hours. more
California coolin’ – R744 technologies make big splash in San FranciscoNews | 27 June 2014ATMOsphere America 2014 moved to the West coast this year, organised from the 18 – 19 June in San Francisco, California. Industry experts in the use of CO2 as a refrigerant in commercial and transport refrigeration and heat pumps discussed the current state of play and future trends. Whilst numbers of CO2 cascade and transcritical refrigeration installations continue to rise in both the US and Canada, expected to reach 600,000 globally by 2018, North American CO2 heat pump water heater tests have shown an Energy Factor (EF) of 3.35 compared to 2.4 EF of an HFC system. more
Golden gateway to wider CO2 uptake: OEM, end-use, and contractor collaboration News | 27 June 2014For the first time, ATMOsphere America included a session dedicated to contractors and suppliers who shared their unique views on how to accelerate the market for natural working fluids in commercial refrigeration. The key: knowledge sharing and close collaboration with contractors from the project outset. more
Expanding market opportunities for CO2 heat pumps in AmericaNews | 27 June 2014A multitude of pathways towards expanding the market for CO2 in heat pumps in America were discussed at a session dedicated to heat pump technology case studies at ATMOsphere America conference on natural refrigerants in San Francisco, 18-19 July 2014: Direct exchange geothermal design, integrated heating and cooling with water source CO2 heat pumps, the design of heat exchangers for heat recovery, as well as progress towards introducing a CO2 heat pump water heater tailored to the needs of the North American market were key topics. more
