Juergen Brenneis

Juergen has started at Red Bull in March 2008 as Product Manager Retail within the Global Purchasing Department and since February 2013, Juergen is heading the Global Purchasing Team for Point of Sale Materials. He has implement the ECO Cooler strategy and has successfully driven the phase out of HFC refrigerants since 2008. In his position he is globally responsible for all technical and commercial aspects for the Red Bull Cooler fleet.

Marc Chasserot



CEO, shecco

Marc Chasserot is a specialist in natural refrigeration with over 15 years of experience in the HVAC&R sector, starting as the Marketing Manager for the Norsk Hydro business unit specialised in CO2 transcritical refrigeration and heating. He worked closely with several Japanese manufacturers selling the market innovative "CO2 Ecocute heatpumps".

In 2006 Marc founded the industry leading website for CO2 cooling and heating experts worldwide, called www.R744.com. This was followed by three additional industry resources for hydrocarbons, water and ammonia (namely: www.hydrocarbons21.com, www.R718.com and www.ammonia21.com).

Marc is co-founder and CEO of shecco, an independent market development company specialised in bringing Natural Refrigerants 'faster to market', working with numerous companies worldwide. Marc has chaired and organised several international workshops bringing together leading policy and industry experts to discuss 'how to bring natural refrigerants' faster to market, known as 'ATMOsphere'. He is also an active member of ASHRAE.

Ian Crookston



Manager, Energy Management, Sobeys Inc.

Ian Crookston is responsible for national utility (electricity, heating fuels and water) lifecycle (procurement, consumption and conservation) spend optimization. Sobeys (www.sobeys.com) is one of Canada's two national retail grocery and food distribution companies with annual revenues of more than $23.9 billion (CAD). Sobeys is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Empire Company Limited and owns or franchises more than 1,500 stores in all 10 provinces under retail banners that include Sobeys, Safeway, IGA, Foodland, FreshCo, Price Chopper, Thrifty Foods and Lawtons Drugs as well as more than 370 retail fuel locations. Ian is a Professional Engineer with a Masters of Applied Science from the University of Waterloo. He is also a Certified Energy Manager and a member of the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

Hironari Fujiki



Engineering Manager for the Heat Pump Solution Sales Section of Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Division, Mitsubishi Heavy Industries

Mr. Fujiki is the Engineering Manager for the Heat Pump Solution Sales Section of Air-Conditioning & Refrigeration Division of Mitsubishi Heavy Industries, Co. Ltd. He joined MHI as a design engineer of air-conditioners in 1989. Since 2010, Mr. Fujiki has been in charge of sales for heat pumps and CO2 water heaters.

Abel Gnanakumar

In 2000, Abel Gnanakumar joined Emerson Climate Technologies' Asian head quarters as the Manager of the Hong Kong engineering center, where he led several engineering research and development projects in the advancements of HVAC systems, compressor testing and development. In 2007, he took the position of Director of the Refrigeration Marketing (Asia) before becoming Vice President of Refrigeration (Asia) in 2015.

Tetsuro Homma



Managing Director, Member of the Board, Panasonic Corporation

Tetsuro Homma has been involved in the industry since joining Matsushita Electric Industrial Co. in 1985. In 2006, he joined AVC Networks Company (part of Devices Business Group) as the Director of the Media Business Unit. After one year as the General Manager of the Corporate Strategy Division at the Corporate Planning Group, Homma joined Panasonic Corp. as an Executive Officer. He served as Senior Vice President in the Appliances Company there, where he was in charge of the Cold Chain Business, and as the Director of the Refrigerator Business Division. In April 2014, he took charge of the Cold Chain & Home Appliances Business. In 2015, Mr. Homma became President of Applicances Company, and was the Managing Executive Officer before taking on the role of Managing Director and Member of the Board at Panasonic Corporation.

Bob Hurley



Director, Retail Engineering Solutions

Bob Hurley is dynamic and experienced Senior Manager with many years of experience. He joined Tesco as a Commissioning Engineer 25 years ago, moving to the role of Refrigeration Design Engineer at HQ after 6 months. In 1996 he became the Engineer for C.E, incorporating Refrigeration, Mechanical and Electrical, as part of a rapid expansion into Central Europe. With significant development in Poland, he lived there for two years as Head of Engineering and continued to mentor the other countries. After his return to the UK and a period in Refrigeration, Bob became the Engineer for the rapid expansion of the convenience format-Express.

In 2006, he returned to Tesco International as Group Engineering and Energy Standards Manager, which also incorporated work on Tesco's Carbon target of -50% from 2006-2020, on which many countries were making great progress. He now works as a consultant in Retail Engineering Services. 

Bob Hurley has a reputation for strategic vision and implementing sophisticated action plans. He has been recognized for leading multiple, culturally diverse teams, to consistently reducing costs and CO2 emissions, whilst delivering innovative retail engineering solutions to ensure the customer experience and achieve environmental policy in accordance with legislation and corporate responsibility.

Junya (Joe) Ichikawa



President, SANDEN Environmental Products Corp.

Mr. Ichikawa’s background is in automotive AC business as COO of Sanden USA & Europe as well as in the vending machine business as CEO of SandenVendo Europe. Having those experiences, he is responsible for CO2 refrigerant related business at Sanden since April 2013. ES Business Division was established by him to be at the core of the company's growth. Now he is leading a newly established company for furthering the business growth of products using CO2 refrigerant.

Oliver Javerschek



Project Manager, BITZER

Oliver Javerschek joined BITZER in 2001 and now holds the position of a Project Manager. He is in charge of various projects in the field of CO2 applications. He wrote his diploma thesis at Sintef Energy Research in Trondheim. Since 2008 he has published several papers at various conferences and for different journals.

Jongsoo Jeong

Ph.D. Jongsoo Jeong is an associate professor at the Research Institute for Science and Engineering of the Waseda University since 2010. From 2011 to 2013, he also joined the University of the Philippines as a visiting professor. Ph.D. Jongsoo Jeong is member of several associations such as the Japan Society of Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers, the Japan Society of Mechanical Engineers and the Society of Heating, Air-conditioning and Sanitary Engineers of Japan. Ph.D. Jongsoo Jeong has received the Best Paper Award at the SAREK 2010 annual meeting, the Best Presentation Award of engineer workshops 2008 of Japan Society of Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers and the Best Presentation Award of Korea society of refrigeration and air-conditioning 2014 annual conference.

Haruko Kanamaru

Since September 2013, Haruko Kanamaru has been the head of the Environment and Social Responsibility Department (Corporate Citizenship Department) for the AEON Group. Kanamaru's previous work experience includes serving as the head of the AEON Management Talent Development Committee Office in 2012 and as the head of Customer service for AEON, as well as the head of the AEON Retail Customer Service Department in 2011.

Kuniaki (Nick) Kawamura

Kuniaki Kawamura has a degree in Applied Physics from Waseda University, Japan. He has been working for Mayekawa Mfg. Co., Ltd since 1973 for the development of screw compressors, screw expanders and heat pumps. In 2002, Kawamura became the Executive Director of the Japanese company.

Kawamura is the Vice President of  the Japanese Society of Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers (JSRAE)
 and he is the President of Commission D1, IIR. His main areas of interest include the development of NH3 refrigeration systems with misible oil, as well as the development of CO2 heat pumps and air cycle for low temperature applications.

Mr. Kumakura joined the Environment Agency in 1994. He was in charge of climate change policy, air pollution policy, nature conservation, nuclear safety. Mr. Kumakura later became the Director of the Office of Fluorocarbons Control Policy in Climate Change Policy Division. He currently holds this position in the Global Environment Bureau within the Ministry of the Environment, Government of Japan.

Nina Masson

Nina has been working with shecco for 11 years in various roles, including Deputy Managing Director shecco SPRL and Chief Market Development Officer shecco group. Today, as Chief Strategy Advisor for Special Projects, she is responsible for EU and UN projects for natural refrigerants and sustainable HVAC&R solutions. She holds two Masters’ degrees in Business Management and in Environmental Management. Nina has been the lead author on various publications. She serves as an independent expert for UN and EU agencies on policy analysis, capacity building, renewable energies and energy efficiency.

Mr. Millow has held the position of New Zealand Regional Manager for Mayekawa Australia Pty Ltd since 1997. In this role, he is responsible for the sales, marketing and engineering of Mayekawa Compressor Units and Packages for the Industrial Refrigeration Market of New Zealand. Mr. Millow has been involved in the Industrial Refrigeration Industry for 30 years and has strong interests and motivation in the promotion and use of natural refrigerants within the industrial refrigeration sector.

Yuji Nakajima

Mr. Yuji Nakajima joined Kobeya in 1981, and he has accumulated a lot of expertise in production, RND, and quality control. Since 1999, he has been responsible for management of frozen dough plants and improving total quality management.

Sadao Nishimura



Managing Executive Officer, YAMATO Co.

Mr. Nishimura is the Managing Executive Officer at YAMATO Co. as well as a professional Engineer authorized by the Japanese Government. Mr. Nishimura has pursued mainly the development of thermal storage systems since the 1990’s and received a number of patents. He developed the UEI (Ultra Eco-Ice) system, which was one of the patents, that makes -6 ℃ ice throughout the night and during the daytime reduces TEWI and performs other functions. The UEI system won the technical award from JSRAE (Japan Society of Refrigerating and Air Conditioning Engineers) in 2007.

Mr. Nishimura is a Member of ASHRAE, JSRAE and SHASE.

Tetsuji Okada



President, Japan Refrigeration & Air Conditioning Industry Association

Mr. Okada is the President of the Japanese Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Industry Association (JRAIA). JRAIA represents all of the major manufacturers of refrigeration and air conditioning equipment in Japan. Prior to being the President of the JRAIA, Mr. Okada worked on the technical design of air conditioning equipment at Mitsubishi, where he had a distinguished career, including responsibility for Mitsubishi in Europe.

Hayato Sakamoto



Assistant Manager, Engineering & Development Section, Aero-Dynamic Machinery Department, Kawasaki Heavy Industries, Ltd.

Hayato Sakamoto is the Assistant Manager of Engineering and Development section. He has 14 years of experience in design and development of turbomachines such as centrifugal blowers and compressors. In 2007, he joined the development team of water refrigerant centrifugal chiller and played an integral role of the development and the commercialization of Kawasaki turbo chiller using R718(water) as a refrigerant. After the launch of this new chiller, he has been engaged in the improvement of technologies and the market development.

Katsunori Shibata

Mr. Shibata is the president of Shibata Welding Constructions Co., (SWC), a company of 40-years experience with refrigeration such as ice machines, cold rooms, and chillers. He also is the CEO of CAREL Japan Co., Ltd., a joint-venture company founded in 2013 by CAREL Industries S.p.A. (Italy) and SWC, for the sales of various CAREL products for refrigeration system in Japan, such as electric expansion valves and controllers.

Sidi Menad Si Ahmed



International Chief Advisor, shecco

Recently retired from his position as the Director of the Montreal Protocol Branch at UNIDO, Mr. Si Ahmed is shecco's International Chief Advisor.

Originally a meteorologist with a specialisation on numerical forecast, he graduated from the Institut Hydrometeorologique de Formation et de Recherche of Oran (Algeria) and the Ecole Polytechnique Federale de Lausanne (atmospheric pollution).

Before joining UNIDO as a Protocol Coordinator, and later as a Director of the Multilateral Environmental Agreements Branch, Mr. Si Ahmed was the Director on Environmental Studies at the Ministry of Environment in Algeria. He was also a lecturer on Environmental Impact Assesment at the University of Algiers.

Hidekazu Tachibana

Hidekazu Tachibana is the General Manager at Panasonic. Having started his career in 1981, Mr. Tachibana has more than 30 years of experience in his field. In 2006, he was appointed as the President of Panasonic Compressor Malaysia Co. Ltd., and has since served as Head of the Sales Department and as Group Manager.

Kazuhiro Takahashi

Kazuhiro Takahashi is a director of Global Environment Division in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), the Government of Japan. Within MOFA he works for international environmental institutions such as UNEP and Multilateral Environment Agreements including the Vienna Convention and the Montreal protocol.

Prior to joining the Division, he worked in the Permanent Mission of Japan to the International Organizations in Geneva as a counselor from 2010-2013, and he was in charge of agriculture, especially Doha Round Agriculture Negotiation. From 2008 to 2010, he was a Director for WTO negotiations in the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries.

Mr. Uto is in charge of the Store Development Division within Lawson, a Japanese leader in CO2 transcritical refrigeration systems installed in convenience stores (CVS). Mr. Uto's role encompasses the construction planning and promotion of Lawson's stores featuring the latest environmental technologies. Besides a specialty in CO2 refrigeration systems, Mr. Uto also carries out other energy saving measures in Japan and overseas.
