Senior Director Energy Optimization for Source Refrigeration, Richard Heath emphasises the importance of certification and training in the HVAC&R industry, especially as technology develops and becomes more advanced. The presentation highlights that matching the proper technician with the proper skill level to a refrigeration system provides a beneficial solution for both the customer and the contractor. Heath also presents the importance of proper training and experience when dealing with natural refrigerant technologies. As the technologies continue to develop, it is necessary to understand the design installation and operation requirements; to acquire the proper tools, to develop required skills; and to develop best practices in order to safely install and maintain natural refrigeration systems.

Richard Heath

In May of 2013, Richard joined one of the Partners in the Carpinteria project, Source Refrigeration, as Sr. Director of Energy Optimization.

Grandson of an Independent Grocer from Macon, Georgia, Richard began his career in the In Supermarket Industry as a Technical Training Consultant over 20 years ago, after serving as an Instructor for the U.S. Navy’s Nuclear Power Training Unit at Knolls Atomic Power Laboratory in upstate NY. Richard's first refrigeration OEM position was as Product Manager for Kysor Warren in the early 90’s; he then moved to Hillphoenix as the Director of Innovative Technologies concentrating on Advanced Refrigeration Technologies, Food Safety, and Controls Integration. After a 7 year hiatus, Richard returned to Hillphoenix as Director of Remodel Programs in 2007.

In 2010 the opportunity to put these remodel concepts to-the-test was presented by SUPERVALU with an offer to take on the role of Director of Energy Innovations and Projects. During his role, the Nation’s first all-natural supermarket refrigeration system was designed and installed in an Albertsons Remodel in Carpinteria, California.
