Carrier Commercial Refrigeration has issued a strong statement in favour of natural refrigerants by becoming the Gold Sponsor of Atmosphere 2009. Carrier, the world’s largest provider of HVAC&R solutions, is currently making inroads in Europe with its innovative CO2OLtec supermarket refrigeration technology based on the natural refrigerant CO2.

Carrier Commercial Refrigeration has decided to take a clear stance in favour of the natural refrigerant CO2 (R744) and actively support Atmosphere 2009 as a key event to bring together industry, policy, and the finance side to discuss benefits and drawbacks of natural refrigerants. As the world’s largest provider of heating, ventilation, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions, Carrier is experienced in manufacturing refrigerated and freezer display cases as well as refrigeration systems for industry and commercial uses – worldwide.

It’s CO2OLtec solution, based on the natural refrigerant CO2, is now already used in nearly 200 supermarkets for low-temperature applications, and in nearly 100 stores for both medium temperature and low temperature applications in cascade and state-of-the-art booster systems. Last year, Carrier won the prestigious Environmental Pioneer award in the Refrigeration category of the Cooling Industry Awards for its groundbreaking work on carbon dioxide commercial refrigeration systems in Europe, especially with advancing the use of transcritical CO2-only systems. With a stronghold in Germany, Carrier is now also expanding its market to the UK where interest in R744 solutions has been increasing rapidly. Among Carrier’s achievement for CO2 is the installation of the largest transcritical R744 refrigeration system in the world, located in a German hypermarket.

Now, Carrier has started serial production of its CO2OLtec programme to spread the energy-efficient and reliable technology in Germany and beyond. Through its support of Atmosphere 2009 the manufacturer wants to make a clear statement of how and where natural refrigerants can lead to substantial benefits in terms of environment while being future-proof when it comes to future legislative pressure.
