Taking place at the United Nations Conference Centre in Bangkok on Friday, June 28th, the ATMOsphere Bangkok 2013 side event to the 33rd Meeting of the Open-ended Working Group of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on Substances that Deplete the Ozone Layer (OEWG33) provided an industry and policy perspective on natural refrigerants.

Over 80 participants attended ATMOsphere Bangkok 2013 "Natural Refrigerant Solutions - policy drivers and examples." The panel discussion focused on market trends, real life examples and policy updates for CO2, NH3, hydrocarbon, air and water technologies. One of the main messages to come out of the meeting was that natural refrigerant solutions can be safe, efficient, economically and technologically viable alternatives in different applications for soon-to-be-phased out HCFC refrigerants, for both developed and developing countries.

As part of this Technology Summit, UNIDO and shecco have launched a survey focusing on the availability, benefits and challenges of natural refrigerants and HFC-free foams in developing countries. The aim of the survey is to provide end-users and manufacturers from developing countries in the refrigeration and foam sectors with practical solutions for overcoming the challenges associated with the introduction of natural substances.
