ATMOsphere America 2015 is pleased to partner with NXTCOLD, a developer of ‘ultra-low’ packaged ammonia systems for industrial refrigeration applications. NXTCOLD will make the trip to Atlanta from its base in Los Angeles as a valued first-time Bronze Sponsor, bringing its tried-and-tested technology for owners of refrigerated warehouses and blast freezing applications.

The 2015 edition of the event in Buckhead, Atlanta will feature a dedicated Low Charge Ammonia panel. Who better to invite then than NXTCOLD’s Chief Technology Officer John Scherer, who will come armed with over 36 years experience in the ammonia refrigeration industry.

Scherer is already seeing the next generation of ammonia refrigeration take hold in the U.S.. NXTCOLD’s low charge units can be applied to a wide range of refrigerated warehouses and cover a capacity range from 5 TR (tons of refrigeration) and 150 TR. The systems are helping reduce regulatory burden for end users by replacing HCFC and HFC equipment before phase out.

Comparably, traditional ammonia systems can use up to 50,000 TR and more. In addition, traditional systems are subject to a much lengthier installation process and extensive permitting and pipefitting requirements. By reducing the ammonia charge so dramatically (in some cases by 98%), NXTCOLD’s low-charge units enable end users to improve safety, reduce their regulatory responsibilities, and focus on their core business, at a reduced cost and greater energy efficiency.

With California introducing the toughest environmental regulations regarding HVAC in the U.S., NXTCOLD sees thousands of existing facilities in the region as potential customers with phase-outs looming. The company is also looking to venture away from ammonia-only systems, with ammonia-CO2 cascade systems for supermarkets in its business plans.

NXTCOLD provides customized installation for each customer, including roof lifting for obsolete warehouses, removing the need for traditional engine rooms, extensive facility piping and ammonia storage tanks. The company currently operates out of six shipping points in the U.S. and Canada (LA, Phoenix, Nashville, Atlanta, Chicago and Toronto).
