Carrier, one the world’s leaders in high-technology heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions, has announced that it will once again be the Platinum Sponsor of the 7th edition of ATMOsphere Europe. The company has supported ATMOsphere Europe as the Platinum Sponsor since the first event in 2009, reflecting Carrier’s commitment to developing environmentally friendly solutions whilst ensuring high performance and efficiency.

Founded by the inventor of modern air conditioning Willis Carrier, Carrier has become an undisputed global leader in delivering heating, air-conditioning and refrigeration solutions for different sectors including residential, commercial, retail, transport, beverage and food service industries.

The company is part of UTC Building & Industrial Systems, a unit of United Technologies Corp., a leading provider to the aerospace and building systems industries worldwide.

Innovative CO2OLtec® system for the food retail

Carrier was one of the first companies to employ natural refrigerants such as CO2 and R290 in commercial refrigeration systems. Its systems are available in a wide variety of unit styles and are designed for all types of stores, from large supermarkets to smaller convenience stores.

Carrier’s innovative CO2OLtec™ technology, which debuted in 2004, offers a reliable cutting edge refrigeration solution for food retailers concerned about global warming and the environment. The CO2OLtec system uses transcritical booster technology to deliver cooling for low and medium temperature applications. The company has also developed specialised solutions, such as ejectors, economizers and mechanical sub-coolers, which allow the system to operate more efficiently in regions with warm climates. The technology currently provides more than 100 megawatts of medium temperature capacity to more than 1,000 sites in 19 European countries.

On 25 March 2015, Carrier opened its CO2OLacademy at its Research Development Center in Mainz, Germany. At the CO2OLacademy, technicians from across Europe participate in training and exercises to improve skills for CO2-based technologies, whilst sharing best practices and lessons learned.

Innovation in road transport industry with Carrier Transicold’s CO2 trailer prototype

In 2014, Carrier Transicold launched the E-Drive Natural Refrigerant Trailer prototype, a refrigeration unit for road transport using CO2 in a closed loop system. Complying with the EU F-Gas Regulation, this world premiere prototype demonstrates the future for refrigerated transportation systems. Although it requires a higher initial investment compared to traditional systems, this is quickly recovered with the elimination of leakage check costs, as well as the elimination of taxes on the refrigerant and refrigerant price versatility.
