Global natural refrigerants label workshop

Day 2 of ATMOsphere Asia 2015 will feature an exciting two-part workshop dedicated to initiating the process and delivering a strong roadmap for the launch of a Global Natural Refrigerants Label. We very much appreciate the active participation and valued input of all workshop attendees.

Workshop background

Currently, there is no uniform, independent and global label highlighting the use of HFC-free gases in HVAC&R equipment. Awareness about the use of natural refrigerants remains low and a high number of stakeholders agree that this lack of visibility presents a clear barrier for their faster and more profitable uptake.

A quality mark for mainstreaming natural refrigerants across the entire value chain worldwide would increase awareness, trust, commitment, engagement, exchange and action among all HVAC&R industry stakeholders.

Workshop goals

The Workshop seeks to clarify the major objectives of the Global Natural Refrigerants Label and expectations of the HVAC&R industry, legislators and end users. Participants will discuss the label’s content, its quality assurance strategy and its priority applications and users. The workshop will also suggest a timeline and major milestones for the evolution of the label and define an effective collaboration model. The discussions will conclude with recommendations about possible next steps.

Practical details & methodology

The workshop will take place on Tuesday, 04 February from 10:00 to 12:30 in the main conference room. It will be split into two parts (Brainstorming & Debriefing) with a coffee break in between. The workshop will kick off with an introduction by shecco Deputy Managing Director Nina Masson, after which participants will split into smaller working groups. Please note that both English speaking and Japanese speaking groups will be available to work on a questionnaire with prompt questions.

In part two of the workshop, each group will have the opportunity to present its findings and conclusions to all conference attendees. Simultaneous translation will be available for participants to present their findings in either English or Japanese.

Site visits

ATMOsphere Asia 2015 offers the unique opportunity to participate in additional full day site visits on Thursday, 05 February, the day following the conference. Participation is free of charge and lunch will be provided. Space is limited to 20 participants per tour so please be sure to reserve your spot by sending an email to asia@ATMO.org.

Mayekawa tour

The Mayekawa sponsored site visit will involve a trip to the Saitama Ice Arena and an introduction to Mayekawa’s state-of-the-art Eco IceAreana System (NewTon-S NH3/CO2 system, CO2 heat pump for dehumidification, solar panels) and Saitama Fish Market (NewTon, PascalAir). Ice skaters welcome!

BITZER / ITOMIC tour

The BITZER / ITOMIC sponsored site visit will take participants to Tochigi-ken where ITOMIC will demonstrate a fully functional installation of its highly efficient CO2 ECO-cute heat pump, which can supply 350 one-person households with warm water. The system has two hot water tanks, each with a capacity of 8,000 liters and a BITZER 4HTC reciprocating compressor. One of the improvements of this ECO-cute over other models is that the heat pump needs 55% less space and weighs 20% less, while still offering better performance values.

More information about the site visits is available on the event programme www.ATMO.org/asia2015/program.

Please be sure to register for the site visit by sending an email to asia@ATMO.org.
