Responsible retailing strategies highlight CO2 cooling in the Mediterranean at ATMOsphere EuropeNews | 25 March 2015As climate change continues to permeate political and social dialogue, an increasing number of food retailers are working to green their corporate image and take the lead in engaging in more sustainable practices. Refrigeration consumes a considerable amount of energy and contributes substantially to greenhouse gas emissions. At ATMOsphere Europe 2015, supermarket giants Carrefour, Delhaize and SONAE MC discussed their use of lean, green, GHG-cutting refrigeration machines. more
ATMOsphere Europe 2015: end users ask technology providers to close ‘gap’ in the natural refrigerant marketNews | 25 March 2015On the second day of ATMOsphere Europe 2015 the Consumer Goods Panel gathered several members of the Refrigerants Naturally! Initiative, who presented on their success in placing HFC-free equipment on the market. For example Red Bull has placed 543,000 hydrocarbon (HC) ECO Coolers, and in 2014 achieved 100% HC procurement, except in Japan. Presenting a global perspective on market trends in the food retail and service sector, Nina Masson of shecco predicted a “growing appetite” for natural refrigerants, specifically hydrocarbons, in North America. more
Wieland signs on as Silver sponsor of ATMOsphere America 2015News | 24 March 2015Wieland, one of the world's best-known manufacturers of semi-finished and special products in copper and copper alloys, will support ATMOsphere America 2015 as a Silver Sponsor for the first time. The conference will take place in Atlanta, Georgia, on 25 & 26 June. more
Broadening hydrocarbon horizons: Commercial refrigeration technology and heat pumpsNews | 24 March 2015Hydrocarbon (HC) technology attracted more attention at ATMO Europe than ever before, with Emerson, Embraco, Huayi and Blupura showcasing their latest solutions. Heat pump and ultralow cascade systems were among the solutions presented, while suppliers continued to discuss EU charge limits. The bottom line: hydrocarbon technology can be found in more and more applications, from water fountains to heat pumps. more
TripleAqua heat pump system, a new, CO2 neutral way of heating and cooling buildingsNews | 23 March 2015At a world premier organised at ATMOsphere Europe on 16 March 2015 in Brussels, Menno Van der Hoff unveiled for the first time the TripleAqua, a patented natural refrigerant heat pump system using propæne as the refrigerant. Designed for heating and cooling of medium and large size buildings, this cutting-edge technology allows for reductions in energy consumption up to 50% and can bring a building to energy label A+++, the highest attainable level in energy efficiency. more
CO2 efficiency equator moves further south by grace of ejector technologyNews | 20 March 2015The continually diminishing CO2 efficiency equator was a hot topic at ATMOsphere Europe 2015. Several system manufacturers presented the methods by which CO2 transcritical system efficiency can be improved, with ejector technology taking the spotlight. According the several presenters the end of the so-called “CO2 equator” is in sight. more
Market well prepared for widespread uptake of natural refrigerants -ATMOsphere Europe 2015News | 19 March 2015ATMOpshere Europe returned to Brussels for its 6th, and largest edition on the 16 & 17 March. Attended by 230 participants, and supported by Platinum Sponsor Carrier and Gold Sponsors Mayekawa, Advansor, Epta and Sanden, the event featured 60 international speakers, who presented on the very latest natural refrigerant trends in and around Europe. With new technologies to improve the efficiency of CO2 in warm ambient climates, and increased investment in training, the market is already well prepared for the restricted use of HFCs foreseen by the new EU F-Gas Regulation, and for the widespread adoption of CO2. more
ATMOsphere Europe market trends: efficient solutions for southern Europe on the rise, doubters proved wrongNews | 19 March 2015The message from ATMOsphere Europe 2015 was clear: the CO2 market in the EU is still in its ascendency. Although yet to reach its peak due to limitations in training as well as full acceptance as a solution for southern Europe, all trends are pointing to these barriers being overcome in the near future. The supply of CO2 transcritical systems continues to grow, with new players entering the market, and new technologies are increasing efficiency in warm ambient climates. more
EU F-Gas Regulation and national legislation creating further opportunities for natural refrigerantsNews | 19 March 2015With the new EU F-Gas Regulation in effect since January 2015, ATMOsphere Europe 2015 held on 16 – 17 March in Brussels, provided a timely platform for key policymakers, industry representatives and stakeholders to exchange views and updates on its implementation. Government representatives from France, Germany and Denmark presented about the next steps foreseen in the national legislation that will further restrict the use of HFCs and promote the use of natural refrigerant solutions. more
TripleAqua: Dutch invention halves the price of heating and coolingNews | 10 March 2015On 16 March 2015 Coolmark is launching its controlled climate system, TripleAqua, at the international Atmosphere event in Brussels. TripleAqua can help to save as much as 50% on heating and cooling of medium and large size buildings. TripleAqua is the most economical system in the world. In addition, it uses a 100% natural refrigerant, propæne. This means that a CO2 neutral building is within everyone’s reach. more
