Tweny-one retailers and 15 member states where asked about their direct and indirect emissions, and what they are already doing to reduce their climate impact. Real-life examples and energy efficiency of HFC-free technologies were examined in this presentation.

Nina Masson - natural refrigerants market trends in europe and beyond

Nina Masson presents the changing industry environment and the latest market trends for natural refrigerants in Europe. In terms of the market potential of natural refrigerant solutions in Europe, Masson predicts that carbon dioxide will enjoy a stronger increase in use among system suppliers than most other natural refrigerants, especially in the commercial and industrial refrigeration industry. However, Masson also believes that ammonia will continue to play a dominant role in industrial refrigeration, and that hydrocarbons will become or remain a preferred option in the light commercial refrigeration sector.

Olivier Campy from Sanden presented the company’s achievement in CO₂ related technologies in recent years. According to Mr Campy, this year, Sanden introduced to the European market the first combi-type CO₂ heat pump for residential space heating and domestic hot water production with a COP of 3.64. He said that Sanden’s objective for CO₂ based products is to reach annual sales of 200 million EUR in 2013, 1,500 million EUR in 2015 and 4,000 million EUR in 2023.

Eric Delforge - Technology and market trends

Eric Delforge says in his presentation that ammonia based systems account for about 95% market share of the sector in Europe. CO₂ systems have about 4% market share while hydrocarbon and HFC based systems account for the rest. Delforge believes that new products and services offered specifically for industrial refrigeration in Europe with natural refrigerants will continue to have a high share of ammonia but will also increasingly focus on the use of CO₂.

Andy Pearson - District Heatpumps & Rivers of Gold
