Stan Mah - Phase-out of f-gases and the shift to natural refrigerants

PDF document
published on 10 February 2016

The presentation charted the Coca-Cola Company’s global strategy to phase out HFCs and adopt natural refrigerant technology (predominantly CO2) in all of its vending machines. The company now has 1.7 million HFC units equipped globally, yet from 2020, all of its vending machines on the market will use natural refrigerants, including its innovative ‘peak-shift’ technology.

Emiko Iida - Development of all natural next generation "ECO & ECO" ice skating rink

PDF document
published on 10 February 2016

The presentation compared Patine Leisure’s commercialised NH3/CO2 ice rink system to two R22 (direct and glycol) ice skating rinks, with power consumption reductions at all three of its rinks in Japan. The company’s flagship installation in Saitama, Japan has a 10-year payback period, with solar power generation offsetting approximately 90% of energy consumption.

Hiroshi Soma - Ground freezing technique using CO2 in construction works

PDF document
published on 10 February 2016

After explaining the concept of ground freezing techniques using natural refrigerants for construction works, the presentation comapred a CO2/NH3 freezing system to a conventional R22 system, which achieves a vastly greater COP of 2.55 compared to 1.63. Chemical Grouting intends to help green the construction sector in Japan, with a metropolitan expressway and bullet train among its planned works in the near future.
