John Thompson - Montreal Protocol and CCAC update

In his presentation, John Tompson from the US Department of State focuses on international aspect of reducing HFCs. This year, the North American countries have again submitted a proposal to amend the Montreal Protocol to cover the reduction of HFCs, which will be discussed at the Open-Ended Working Group of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol in June 2013. Another part of the presentation focuses on the Climate and Clean Air Coalition to reduce short-term climate pollutants that is aimed at near term actions to mitigate the climate change.

Brian Rodgers - UL standards - update on natural refrigerants

Brian Rodgers from the Underwriters Laboratories (UL) starts the presenation by providing a brief overview of history of UL standards for different applications. In November 2011, UL facilitated the initial initial Flammable Refrigerants Joint Task Group (JTG) meeting in Las Vegas, NV. The JTG has established three working groups dealing with developmend of requirements for flammable refrigerants used in air-conditioning and refrigeration equipment, as well as addressing requirements for testing and evaluation of flammable refrigerants.

Michael L. Marshall - OSHA regulations for natural refrigerants

Mike Marshall from OSHA outlines in his presentation safety standards that apply to natural refrigerants, including general industry standards as well as specific standards for the use of ammonia, CO2 and hydrocarbons. In his presentation, Mr Marshall highlighted that OSHA is about protecting the people inside the fence line, while EPA is focused on protecting the people outside the fence line.
