Martin Millow - The application of NH3 heat recovering high temperature heat pump hot water generation for the meat industry in New Zealand

PDF document
published on 4 February 2015

Martin Millow of Mayekawa Australia analysed the benefits of generating useful hot water using an ammonia heat pump, rather than rejecting the refrigeration system heat, offering an energy efficient method of useful and sustainable hot water generation suitable in a variety of industries. Millow concluded the presentation saying that depending on system operating conditions and applications, ammonia heat pumps can exceed a COP of 8.0.

Kenichi Nishikawa - Development of micro-fin adsorption equipment for adsorption heat pump

PDF document
published on 4 February 2015

Responsible for the development of Adsorption Heat Pump at Denso, Kenichi Nishikawa introduced Denso’s ultra compact adsorption equipment with a micro-fin technology designed for an adsorption heat pump and presented a case study on how this innovative technology improves heat transfer and reduces size. In 2011, the study was one of the New Energy and Industrial Technology Development Organization (NEDO) projects to develop cutting edge energy-saving technology.

Hayato Sakamoto - Kawasaki turbo chiller using water as a refrigerant

PDF document
published on 4 February 2015

Hayato Sakamoto discussed a turbo chiller using water as refrigerant that Kawasaki Heavy Industries introduced in 2013. Chiller water temperature can be controlled within 7±0.3°C, and power consumption is reduced compared to air-conditioning using HFC as refrigerants.

Abel Gnanakumar - Controls designed to help improve CO2 system pressure stability

PDF document
published on 4 February 2015

Emerson’s presentation highlighted the company’s latest developments in the field of CO2 refrigeration including Emerson controls designed to improve CO2 system pressure stability. The optimisation of CO2 system pressure is achieved by improving flash tank pressure stability, evaporator pressure / temperature stability, system suction pressure stability and higher suction pressures. In addition, advanced high-pressure controllers help maintain sub cooling in condensers in subcritical mode, create pressure drop into the flash tank and optimise COP during transcritical operations.
