While the company praised the high savings their CO2 subcritical commercial refrigeration systems were able to provide, they are still seeking an alternative to R134a. The performance of its two CO2/NH3 stores has not met expectations. However, SONAE MC is keeping an eye on CO2-only technology and the innovative solutions being developed to improve the efficiency of transcritical systems in southern Europe.

Initiative, who presented on their success in placing HFC-free equipment on the market. For example Red Bull has placed 543,000 hydrocarbon (HC) ECO Coolers, and in 2014 achieved 100% HC procurement, except in Japan. Presenting a global perspective on market trends in the food retail and service sector, Nina Masson of shecco predicted a “growing appetite” for natural refrigerants, specifically hydrocarbons, in North America.
